Great selection, great location; a nice way to end a night.
Love it know the owners awesome place good gelato good food and great company
Very delicious and a good price for such great quality. The lady at the counter was super nice and patient in helping me choose good flavors. I am definitely going back for more.
MoreGreat selection of flavors, like lavender blueberry and ricotta orange. Both great. Others with us had coffee, chocolate and hazelnut. All good. Texture was smooth and silky on the tongue. Definitely worth a visit when in the area. Patio area outside is great for enjoying the gelato while people watching.
MoreBest gelato I've had (granted my gelato experience isn't huge) very good flavor it's all fresh made. The owner is from Italy so he has traditional experience with gelato and it shows
MoreThis is the best gelato I've had, ever. The flavors were amazing and delicious. It's a little expensive so perhaps not an every day item, but for an occasional treat I strongly recommend this place.
MoreOne of the best gelato in the area. Highly recommended
Really good gelato, my favorite in the bay area. You can't go wrong with the chocolate or the Italian chocolate chip.
MoreLet alone 5 dollars, not even worth 50 cents.
Vegan flavors that aren't solely sorbet! Next to BART is a bonus for a quick ice cream getaway.
MoreGreat gelato and chocolate choices
They let you try as many flavors as you want! And wow the flavors are so flavorful compared to most ice cream places. Way better than any other icecream-like dish I've ever had, hands down. That said, take this review with a grain of salt - at time of writing, the only other gelato I've tried was 1. at an airport I don't even remember at a stopover in some east-ish flyover state or other, which was terrible 2. the gelato place in the gourmet ghetto, which was only as good as I'm used to ice cream being. So while Almare is absolutely amazing, I haven't compared it to other good gelato places.
MoreLuxurious flavors, always feels like a treat coming here. They pretty reliably have a couple sorbets, which is important for some of my lactose-intolerant friends. Sometimes a bit cramped and loud for my taste inside, but there's now a nice plaza with tables right outside.
MoreDelicious Italian style gelato: less sweet and fatty than ice creams and authentic flavors. High quality product. It would deserve a more spacious shop.
MoreIt took a while for me to get my order, but I ordered the lemon sorbet & vanilla ice cream together. It worked out fine for me. It's a small gelato store in the middle of downtown Berkeley. It was fine.
MoreDelicious flavors, friendly staff who was properly masked
This will be one of my new favorite places in Berkeley. It's a cute hole in the wall Gelato place just outside the Downtown Berkeley BART station. I don't know how long ago they opened, but I'm glad i know their existence now. They have just a few tables, but the plaza is a great place for overflow. It's only a hop, skip, and jump from the movie theater, in case you're inclined to treat yourself after a movie.
MoreDelicious hand crafted gelato! So many great flavors!
The customer service could've been better but the gelato was delicious
Well, this is as good as it gets pretty much. The Gelato is made fresh there and it is comparable or better than any of the "best" I've had in Italy. Smooth, rich and creamy in texture, it melts in your mouth and brings forth a deep satisfaction and reverence for the finest. I've been back here several times in many years - my dad even came up from Southern California and he really was speechless... a man whose made his life in Italian food/wine catering and food-service, now that's a rarity for him! You have to appreciate the complexity in the simple to really appreciate what this place brings. Glad to have this touch of Italy (made with love).
MoreThey make their gelato in house every morning, and the menu changes depending on the day you visit. Delicious gelato! I highly recommend strawberry cheesecake flavor. They also sell chocolate on a stick that you can melt in a cup of warm water or milk and enjoy a creamy hot chocolate at home. Highly recommend!
MoreHonestly, this is the best all-around Gelato shop you will find in Berkeley. Their prices are great, with all sorts of different flavors which all are also delicious! I also really enjoy the texture of the sorbets they have here. They have a decent location in the city, but I highly recommend going to Almare Gelato Italiano if you’re in the area.
MoreThis place is pretty good. Scoops are pretty small for the price, but I'm not from around here so maybe that's the norm? I love their Tuscan melon sorbet!
MoreFairly unique flavours, and they pack your tiny cup full. Very worth the price. The location is a bit small though, so there probably won't be a spot to sit.
MoreBest Gelato I Know of outside Italy. Authentic. I go every time I'm in town. Love this place.
MoreTHE ROSE GELATO IS SO GOODHighly recommend
Strawberry Cheesecake is really really good.
Great choice of flavors. Made fresh daily.
This is the best gelato I've found in the bay area. Each flavor has real flavor in it - it doesn't all just taste like sugar and cream (although there is plenty of sugar and cream!). Every day has different flavors - all made on site that day. I sure wish I lived closer to Berkeley. My favorite is the toasted almond and fig but I also loved pineapple and mint, salted caramel, and coconut. And the only reason I'm not listing more flavors was because those are the only ones I had time to eat!
MoreNot bad, but then I just got back from a trip in Europe (rome), and had the best Gelato ever there!
MoreMy absolute favorite gelato place -- they made me fall in love with their toasted almond with caramelized fig! I love it so much that friends know to bring a quart over when I throw dinner parties (I have great friends!). Adorable little spot right in front of the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Friendly staff, nice selection of treats, and decent amount of seating.
MoreUnique flavors at reasonable price
Authentic Italian gelato!
The roasted almond and carmelized fig is crazy good
One of the better and more closer to real gelato. I am still looking for the pistachio gelato that can match the quality and taste of what you find in the best places in Italy.
MoreExcellent Gelato, very close to UC Berkeley. Certainly on par with many European Gelato makers. Try the almond fig gelato for something unique!
Morenice and kind guy, yummy gelato:)
Please stop making people buy candy they don’t want when they don’t have cash for purchases under $5. Get an atm or utilize Venmo. Also, it isn’t legal to require a minimum purchase just because you’re weary of card fees. You’re a business, plan around it.
MoreThe Best gelato in town!!! Authentically made by a member of a long history of family gelato makers in Italy!
MoreJust had an excellent affogato with their gelato stracciatello.
Pretty good tasting salted caramel gelato. I wish it had a little more of the burnt taste.
MoreAlways has tasty new flavors. I recommend Coffee, Ube, and Stracciatella! Some others like their Rose gelato, but personally it's not my favorite. Their gelato is a lovely texture. They have recently added gelato sandwiches which unfortunately only come in vanilla and chocolate gelato.
MoreThe gelato is within the normal range of pricing, and it is fantastic. The almond and fig gelato is something special, delicately flavored and creamy. It's a small store, so while there are tables, it's a safe bet to assume this will be more of a walking and eating. Great for sunny day walks through downtown Berkeley.
MoreAGI 10th Anniversary was rescheduled due to bad air quality from recent California fire. Event is from 5:30-7p.m with live band playing tunes at BART plaza. People were in line by 5:10 by 5:30 the line was halfway near Walgreens. They probably rehearse this day because line went by quick and samples ready to be given out with extra work. First sample was non-carbonated lemonade, then pizzelle, then biscotti, then hot chocolate and then your cup of 4oz gelato of choice (no half flavor selection). I had a cup of pumpkin pie and went back for pistachio. Break pizzelle in half and stuck it in gelato to make it somewhat not so plain looking and spoon away. Consider yourself lucky if you made it there tonight.
MoreJust simple good gelato!!
Friendly service and delicious vegan options.
I don't normally dish out the superlatives, but Almare is likely the best gelato I've had in America...and I know my gelato in a cross-continent way :) Tanti auguri Simone!
MoreHave many flavors...not great taste....prefer real American style ice cream to gelato..texture and flavors don't compare to what you get in Italy.
MoreEvery flavor is delicious!
This is where you can find authentic Italian gelato in a nice selection of flavors. Pistachio is my all time favorite. There is no American made pistachio ice cream that can even come close to pistachio gelato and at Almare they make it just as good as any gelato I've ever had in Italy.Coconut and tiramisu are also awesome flavors to try. The only way my visit there could have been better would be if they had strawberry and cream flavors to choose from - they go together really well with pistachio. Besides the gelato, they offer Italian coffee, cookies and chocolates. If you appreciate good service and authentic Italian gelato, you gotta give Almare a try - you won't be disappointed !
